Last year we took the responsibility of looking after 2 locally built Coracles, which had been in storage for around 30 – 35 years at Prestongrange Mining Museum, during the museum renovations these were found and made their way to DadsWork SCIO Men’s Shed who have taken on the challenge of restoring these to their original state. Our guys have researched the restoration and carefully restored one of which we launched today.

The coracle was stripped back to the ash lath and cleaned up and ensured the wood was of good standard, renewed the calico material ensuring no water could get in the painted with 3 coats of bitumen ready for sailing. The original seat with the children’s names from all these years ago are still there as is the original ash lath and carrying handle.

A massive thank you to our Men’s Shed guys for a wonderful loving restoration 💙👋

A massive thank you to Scott for captaining the Maiden Voyage 🧑‍✈️

Pictures before, during and after restoration and of course the launch 🍾
